Box It To Go: Rosso Pizza (109 St/87 Ave)
Well, we started this crazy adventure many years ago now, a father and son with the intent to find the Magic Golden Super Best Pizza in the city of Edmonton, so it's sort of fitting that the very last PizzaMonsters review has a chance of doing just that.
After reading that Rosso Pizzeria was voted one of the top fifty pizzas in the world (and taking the number 12 spot overall even!) recently made us sit up and take notice, and instantly put Rosso on the list of must visits.
Would Rosso live up to the hype and become a PizzaMonster all-time-favourite?
Located on the busy 109 Street just before the High Level Bridge, Rosso is easy to find though parking can get tricky if the limited parking out front is taken.
Beautifully decorated with a welcoming atmosphere despite it's 'fancy' feel, we lucked out with a table by the window and settled in. The upfront counter display tempted us with tasty looking desserts and treats while we soaked up that atmosphere and started eyeing up the menu (as well as some nearby pizzas).
Wood always makes a warm decoration, but in this case the wood was being used to warm the pizzas in their traditional style wood-fired brick oven. Pizza historians among you will recognize this as being the same ovens used traditionally in Italy, the home of pizza, for thousands of years
After some heavy debate, we opted for the namesake pizza of the restaurant... the Rosso. We figured if they're confident enough to put their name on it, it must be good! With San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella fior di latte, taleggio cheese, soppressata, local homemade organic Italian hot sausage, seasonal hot peppers, and chili oil, (along with extra sauce, of course!) we knew we were on to a winner.
We went for the hot peppers on the side, a really good call as the peppers were definitely on the hotter side!
We scarfed a traditional style Bruschetta so quickly, the camera couldn't even keep up to take a picture. But needless to say, it was yummy. A Peach Iced Tea and an italian Moretti beer helped us pass the time as we waited for the main event.

The Place: 4.5 - Friendly staff, great atmosphere, bit of an odd layout but a really nice place to be.
The Crust: 5 - That wood-fired oven works its magic on the '00' flour crust and bakes it to perfection. Crisp and chewy, mamma mia!
The Sauce: 5 - That's got to be my fav pizza sauce of all time, I think. Flavourful but balanced enough not to overwhelm the rest of the pizza.
The Cheese: 5 - Stretchy, chewy, salty... an excellent blend of cheeses.
The Toppings: 5 - Again, the balance is right with the cheese and the crust. The soppressata and sausage were great and the odd hot pepper kept the mouth alive with flavour!
PizzaMonsters Verdict: 5 I have to say this is the best pizza I've had in Edmonton. Perhaps the closest I'll get to having an authentic Italian pizza. It's not cheap, but pizza this good rarely is, I imagine. If you've enjoyed these reviews please feel free to buy us a ticket to Naples sometime! Thanks for reading, we've really enjoyed it and hope you have too!
